illegal harmony was founded by Marc Yeats in january 2002.
the ensemble has a unique artistic vision: to perform contemporary music of the highest quality and imagination - music which, for one reason or another, has not received the attention that it deserves. in so doing, we hope to bring many new and surprising works to public attention, bucking fashions, fads and trends whilst bypassing the ultra conservatism of many programming bodies - we aim to focus on the music, above all else.
illegal harmony is a flexible ensemble performing works involving 1-12 instruments. our core instrumentation includes soprano, flute(s), oboe/cor anglais, clarinet(s), saxophone(s), violin, viola, cello, piano and percussion. we also have access to guest musicians.
illegal harmony is fortunate to have musicians of the highest calibre, many of who have established very strong reputations in their own fields - some are already tipped to be performing stars of the future - bring these talented individuals together and you can 'hear' the sparks flying!
