The quality of many of the images illustrated here is unfortunately rather poor. In trying to create a chronological catalogue of paintings from 1979 when Marc was 16 years old, into the 1980s, we have had to use scanned images from old photographs that were taken at the time. Initially, Marc unwittingly photographed all his paintings using domestic artificial light, hence the very sepia nature of the colour of many of the early paintings – the paintings themselves were not this colour. Marc eventually realised that photographing his work using natural light gave a much more accurate account of the colour of the work and this is the method he used from the mid 80s onwards.
